Located near North Bay, Big Moose Camp offers year-round access to Ontario’s beautiful north.

Big Moose Camp

Just east of North Bay, Big Moose Camp sits on the shores of Lake Nosbonsing, offering the kind of Ontario cottage resort getaway that revolves around being outside and close to the water.

This is a four-season resort, with lakefront and lakeview cottages, a sandy beach, fishing, paddling, and plenty of room to spend the day outdoors. Come winter, the boats give way to ice huts and snowmobiles, but the lake remains at the centre of the experience.

Where You Stay

Big Moose Camp has 14 cottages and two trailers, with seven cottages available year-round. The cottages range from two to three bedrooms and come with kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor space that includes a deck, picnic table and fire pit.

It’s an easy setup for families who want to settle in for a few days, cook their own meals, and spend evenings outside around the fire. Pets are also welcome in the cottages, have their own designated swim area (they are not allowed on the beach) and plenty of trails for long walks.

What You Do

In the warmer months, days can start and end at the lake.

Big Moose Camp has a private, sandy beach with shallow and deeper swimming areas, along with a playground and 18-hole mini-putt for families. Guests can get onto Lake Nosbonsing by canoe, kayak, pedal boat, or stand-up paddle board, or rent a boat and motor for a day farther out on the water.

Back on land, there are horseshoes and volleyball, while nearby trails open up more possibilities for exploring by ATV. Sometimes, though, the best plan is the simplest: find a spot by the lake and watch the sun go down.

Where You Fish

Lake Nosbonsing is a big part of the story here.

The lake supports walleye, northern pike, bass, yellow perch and some impressive muskellunge (muskies), with opportunities to cast from a boat or from the dock at the resort. Big Moose Camp has boat and motor rentals, docking and launching facilities, making it easy to build a stay around time spent fishing.

Fishing continues into winter, when the frozen lake becomes its own playground. Big Moose Camp offers ice-fishing packages with wood-heated huts located within walking distance of the cottages.

When the Snow Arrives

Seven cottages remain open year-round, providing a home base for winter weekends on Lake Nosbonsing. Along with ice fishing, snowmobiling is a major draw, with access to OFSC trails from the property.

Who It’s For

Big Moose Camp works particularly well for travellers who like their resort getaways casual and outdoorsy.

Families have the beach, playground, and mini-putt. Anglers have a lake they can fish in year-round. Paddlers can spend days exploring the water. Snowmobiliers can make the resort their comfortable winter base. Couples looking for something quieter can trade the activitiy list for quiet days and evenings by the lake.
