Member Spotlight: Springwood Cottage Resort
Tucked beneath tall pines on the shores of Kennebec Lake in Ontario’s Frontenac region, you'll find Springwood Cottage Resort. This year-round boutique cottage resort balances classic Canadian cottage traditions with a few thoughtful surprises.
Water & Woods at Springwood

Water is the central feature of a stay at Springwood Cottage Resort. The lake beckons guests to fish, paddle and swim — all activities readily available to those who stay.
The network of nature trails winding through the property offers another chance to get out in nature. Guests can see rock formations shaped over millennia, birds moving through the treetops, fall foliage reflected in the water, and sunsets that turn the docks into front-row seats for the end of the day.
A large shallow sandy beach leads into the lake, complete with a water trampoline and space for unhurried afternoons. Nearby, a playground and gathering areas — hammocks, picnic tables, and gazebos — offer places to pause or reconnect. A two-tier community BBQ and leisure deck anchors the property, while a dedicated fishing dock and fish-cleaning hut nod to Springwood’s roots as a traditional fishing camp.

What sets Springwood apart, though, is how it brings people together beyond the water. Known as Canada’s premier boardgame resort, games are woven into daily life here. A dedicated games room features arcade-style games, while a collection of nearly 1,000 boardgames invites guests to slow down, gather around a table, and rediscover the joy of shared play. Outdoor games and playful “easter eggs” scattered across the property reinforce the idea that connection — across generations, families, and friend groups — is central to the Springwood experience.
The resort offers complimentary access to an impressive range of activities in every season. In warmer months, kayaks, canoes, pedal boats, stand-up paddleboards, and tandem kayaks line the shore, ready for easy exploration. Bikes are available for adults and youth, while winter brings out snowshoes, sleds, hockey nets, and even snow-people-making kits. These small details make colder days feel just as welcoming as summer ones.
A Long Tradition of Hospitality

Springwood’s story stretches back decades. What began as a modest fishing camp with a handful of cabins evolved slowly over time, shaped by multiple families who each left their mark while preserving the property’s natural character. Many of the mature trees that once shaded anglers still define the landscape today, offering continuity and a sense of place that feels increasingly rare.
In 2021, Christine and Ed Chaplin became the new stewards of Springwood after years of searching for the right property. Stepping away from their corporate careers, they brought with them a shared love of cottage life, games, and community. Over the past few years, they’ve thoughtfully curated an experience designed to help guests step out of daily routines and reconnect with nature, with each other, and with a slower pace of life that reflects what they believe Canadian cottage culture is truly about.

Today, Springwood features 17 well-equipped cottages ranging from two to four bedrooms. The variety makes the resort well-suited to couples, families, larger groups, and even pets. Just as importantly, the resort is committed to being a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful space, where guests of all backgrounds and identities can feel comfortable being themselves.
From family getaways and quiet lakeside weekends to full-resort celebrations like cottage-style weddings, Springwood Cottage Resort continues to evolve while staying grounded in its original purpose: offering a place where people can gather, unwind, and create memories shaped by water, woods, and time spent together.
