Nestled on the serene shores of Lake of Bays in Ontario’s iconic Muskoka region, Lumina Resort offers distinct blend of classic cottage-style hospitality and family-friendly charm that has endured for more than a century.

Member Spotlight: Lumina Resort
Lumina Resort sits on a sprawling, 240-acre estate that includes 350 feet of sandy beach. This lakeside setting provides an idyllic platform for both relaxation and active recreation. The resort’s historic legacy, family ownership, and retro-cottage feel imbue every stay with an authentic Muskoka atmosphere.

The resort’s design feels timeless, with 36 chalet cottages and a charming Main Lodge tucked around manicured lawns and whispering pines. Guests can choose accommodations ranging from comfortable lodge rooms to multi-bedroom family cottages, each offering its own perspective on lake views and woodland tranquility. Many cottages feature balconies and fireplaces, enhancing the cozy, woodsy ambience that defines the Lumina experience.

One of the defining features of the resort is its waterfront. The property includes over 1.6 kilometres of shoreline and a 100-metre sandy beach, offering ample space for swimming, relaxing, and launching watercraft. Lake of Bays itself is one of Muskoka’s largest lakes, known for its clear water and open stretches suitable for boating and paddling.

Lumina’s activity offering is extensive and included in the stay, which is part of what has helped establish its reputation as a classic family resort. On the water, guests can access kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, sailboats, and paddle boats. Water skiing instruction and tubing are also available. On land, there are tennis courts, shuffleboard, lawn bowling, basketball, volleyball, horseshoes, croquet, and marked walking trails throughout the property.
For families with children, supervised kids’ programming is part of the experience. This structured activity schedule gives younger guests their own rhythm to the day while allowing parents time to relax, paddle, or simply sit by the water.

Dining is another core component of the Lumina experience. Meal plans include breakfast and dinner served in the main dining room overlooking the lake. The format encourages guests to gather at set times, reinforcing the sense of community that defines traditional Ontario resort life.
Since its founding in 1921, this beloved retreat has welcomed generations of families back year after year, creating deep-rooted traditions and lifelong memories against the backdrop of pristine woodlands and clear waters.
