Ontario's Hidden Gems Exposed - Severn Lodge

All-inclusive vacations are extremely popular when travelling to somewhere like the Caribbean and Mexico.  We all dream of these kind of vacations where you can just relax on the beach and enjoy living the dream! If all you wanted to do is relax on the beach and be waited on hand and foot…you can do that!  Did you know that you don’t have to go internationally or even leave your own province to get the same royal treatment?  It’s available right here to you in your own backyard….and there are a lot of them!  We continue our journey this week exploring these American Plan aka all-inclusive resorts!

We begin our adventure in the very popular Muskoka region.  Erected in the mid 1800’s this Main Lodge building served as one of the headquarters for the Georgian Bay Lumber Company. The coastal waters along the shores of Georgian Bay and the many inland lakes and rivers, served as major transportation routes for the logs to reach the mills where they were then cut into lumber and shipped to nearby markets in Southern Ontario and Northern United States.  In 1928 William H. “Bill” Breckbill, a recent high school graduate, began working summers at Severn Lodge.  He worked his way through various positions and eventually became the general manager. Then, in the fall of 1936 Bill purchased it, thus beginning his lifelong love affair with Severn Lodge. The love Bill and Jeanne had for Severn Lodge was passed on to their sons and will continue for generations to come as they keep the Severn Lodge legacy going.  For over 150 years the Breckbill family has been welcoming guests to enjoy the magnificent beauty and serenity of Severn Lodge’s idyllic Muskoka lake country.  It’s has attracted vacationers seeking refuge from their daily routine. The air is clean, the water is crystal clear, the stars are bright, and the sunsets spectacular!

Severn Lodge is located in the southern part of the Muskoka Lake District near Georgian Bay and the hamlet of Port Severn and encompasses over 100 acres of property with 2000 feet of pristine waterfront!  It is situated in a quiet sheltered bay on the northern shores of Gloucester Pool, the western most lake of Ontario’s historic Trent Severn Waterway and overlooks a spectacular array of picturesque pine clad islands. The view is simply breathtaking, and it is difficult to believe that the resort is just a short distance from the greater Toronto area.

All resort accommodations are in buildings surrounding the Main Lodge and have a view of the magnificent waterfront. There are resort (hotel style) rooms for couples and smaller families and 2 bedroom units for larger families.  All are available with all-Inclusive packages that include meals, use of most resort recreation facilities, summertime supervised kids activities and evening entertainment.  There are cottages and suites with kitchens for that added flexibility of eating in or dining out. Packages for those accommodations features the above but without the meals….but let’s face it, you might as well get the all-inclusive option and not have to worry about a thing!
